The U.S. government requires that all U.S. "persons" (citizens, residents (i.e. green card holders) and U.S. corporations, trusts, and estates) file an annual report if they have financial interest or signature authority over one or more foreign bank or financial accounts with value exceeding $10,000 at any given point in the year. The deadline for filing is June 30, and penalties for failure to file can be severe. There are no filing extensions. Unfortunately, this form cannot be filed online (why make it easy?).
